The K/P/2 on West Island is an exciting and vibrant place to be. Individual differences and abilities are openly discussed and individual goal setting is actively encouraged.

Multi Age Group sessions along with ability groups and independent work are integrated throughout each day to allow for the different developmental levels of each individual. Play, both structured and free is an important part of the K-PP's day to ensure the social and emotional needs of each child are met in a safe and caring environment.

Mrs Harrison believes that school for this age group is an extension of home life and so parents are involved in many of the programs and communication between school and home is ongoing through daily communication books, fortnightly newsletters and weekly photos on our Webster interactive board. Assessment techniques, program philosophies and current research are provided to parents to enable them to be part of their child’s educational journey and recognise the developmental stages of each child.

In class, negotiated curriculum drives most of the planning process so students have ownership of the programs, are aware of what will be covered, have input as to how they would like to discover it, and are informed of the steps needed to achieve individual success.

The K-2 classroom program is enhanced by the expertise of several specialist teachers and a full time Teachers Aide who is integral for the smooth running of such a busy class.
