Pulu Keeling National Park Tour At the beginning of each year the senior students of Cocos Islands District High School have the opportunity to travel to Pulu Keeling National Park which is located 24 kilometres north of the main atoll. The students and staff are accompanied by Parks Australia staff who are the tour guides for the day’s excursion. Pulu Keeling National Park is an island of international environmental significance and was proclaimed a National Park in 1995. Pulu Keeling is rich in natural wonders and historic events. It is an internationally significant seabird rookery and has one of the world’s largest breeding colonies of Red-footed Booby birds. It is also the only place where the endemic Cocos Buff-banded Rail is found. As well as these factors it is the resting place of the SMS Emden, a German cruiser which was driven on to the reef by HMAS Sydney in August 1914. Our students and staff are privileged to have the opportunity to visit this unique National Park.
