Ryan Breadsell Ryan started out teaching in Cocos in 2003 and is now married to Iris, a Dutch beach volleyball enthusiast with a Masters in Economics, whom he meet whilst on Long Service leave in 2005. He now lives in a beautiful house overlooking his fishing paradise. His love for fishing has lured him to include an exciting Design and Technology program that gets the students designing and making fishing lures, teasers, deep sea fishing cages and even the more traditional hunting spears (Tumbah) of the Cocos Malay's. He looks forward to taking his kids on their evaluation field trip and teaching those sports fishing to try out their projects. Ryan spends his leisure time running the West Island Fire Department, green keeping the local golf course, fishing and camping with Iris.
Rick Greaves Rick Greaves is a middle school teacher with his wife Karen. Rick, Karen and their daughter Amber are very happy being back at Cocos, having taught here in 1983/84. Rick's older daughter Paige who is currently doing a Sports Science Degree in Perth also loves the islands having stayed here early on in 2004. Rick is a keen sport enthusiast who loves football, swimming and surf skiing and just generally enjoys the island life style. Recently, Rick with three fellow teachers completed the Pulu Kokos Lagoon Swim - an event which requires swimmers to cross the lagoon from Home Island to West Island either in a team or as a solo swimmer.
Larissa Powell Larissa Powell began teaching on Cocos in July 2003. She spent 2007 teaching at a SHS in Perth and has returned to enjoy island life for a bit longer. She is the Science specialist across the two campuses. Larissa lives on Cocos with her husband and two high school age children. They love getting out in their boat, going to Direction Island and surfing. Larissa enjoys the beautiful kids and lovely environment of teaching at Cocos Islands DHS.
Jen Roberts Jen Roberts is currently in her second round of living on Cocos and has now been back for 7 years! She was here in 1983 and 1984, when her children were small. Now that they are grown up, she has returned and is teaching Society and Environment, Career Education and Library studies on West Island. She particularly enjoys being part of the year 9/10 team where she is heavily involved in the organisation of the City Experiential Camp and the Community Service Programme. Watching the Year 10 group develop and prepare for the huge step of moving to the mainland for Year 11 and 12 is a further challenging but rewarding part of her job. Returning to Cocos has been a dream come true and to have the opportunity to renew old friendships with the Home Island people and be involved in events such as the annual Lagoon swim are a bonus.
Terry Washer Terry is the LOTE (Bahasa Indonesia) teacher on West Island, and often teaches in other areas as a relief teacher.
